Speak Up" Story

    It was a global revolution

    It was a global "revolution".

有强烈感情”,合在一起“Neo-philes”成了现今好莱坞对黑客帝国影迷的代名词--编者注) showed up in droves for the worldwide release of The Matrix Revolutions. Tens of thousands of Chinese neophiles watched the premier of "The Matrix: Revolutions" on Wednesday night, along with Matrix fans in 80 countries and regions all over the world.

The “Revolution” started Wednesday on an 18,013 screens at 10,013 theaters in 107 territories, the largest ever.

While the final installment of the man-versus-machine epic starring Keanu Reeves wasn't quite the One with critics, Matrix fans still set their watches to see whether Zion gets saved.

Warner Bros. spent upward of $100 million to orchestrate Revolutions' debut, which began at the exact same moment around the globe--what the studio hyped as "zero hour"--6 a.m. in Los Angeles, 9 a.m. in New York, 2 p.m. in London, 5 p.m. in Moscow, and 11 p.m. in Tokyo.

In Beijing, the movie made its debut at 12 cinemas in the evening at 10:00 pm. Tickets were sold as high as 80 Yuan, or nearly 10 US dollars.

Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations, called the synchronized release a smart move.

"The global release strategy is a good one. It really prevents piracy," Dergarabedian tells E! Online. "It takes the value out of these pirated DVDs or videos if everyone in the whole world can get the movie at the same time in the theater."

Do the critics like Keanu Reeves, who acted Neo in the film?

Why the global release strategy effectively prevented piracy(盗版)?

  • [certain groups of people] showed up in droves for [some place] :

  • ... is wasn't quite the one with sb: ...

  • ... set their watches to see sth happen:

  • "Show Off"专栏

Killer Sentence":

Foreigner: Hey, Wang, do you have the D-Copy of the newly realsed film: "The Matrix: Revolutions"?

Xiao Wang: Are you kidding? The global release strategy of the film takes the value out of these pirated DVDs or videos. Together with other people across the world, we watched the movie at the same time in the theater.
